The ability to be mobile is critically important for everyone, particularly people who have developmental disabilities. Reliable transportation allows us to participate in the community and to realize our individual goals, leading to greater life opportunities. Koinonia’s Transportation Services provides the best standard and care for transporting adults who have developmental disabilities. The agency owns and maintains a fleet of over 59 vehicles that travel nearly 300,000 miles each year. Vehicles are maintained by certified mechanics and are on a maintenance schedule. Transportation Department vehicles are driven by staff who hold Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to ensure the safety of our bus passengers and are insured to drive specially modified vehicles. All of our homes have a vehicle or vehicles assigned to them, depending upon the needs of the residents.
Non-medical transportation is a waiver-funded service that transports individuals to a variety of activities, including work, medical appointments, community activities, day trips and social outings. Individuals throughout the community can access our transportation services through the Cuyahoga, Lorain, or Summit County Boards of Developmental Disabilities. The program provides transportation to Koinonia Enterprises Adult Day, Senior, and Career programs for all campus activities and offers daily transport for each individual who participates.
