The skies may have been a little cloudy on Saturday, October 6, at The Chalet in Strongsville, but there was a lot of sunshine in the hearts of over 250 people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), as they enjoyed Koinonia’s annual fall picnic and hayride, as well as in the spirits of the volunteers who not only sponsored the event but also worked to grill hundreds of hamburgers and hot dogs for the guests to create individual sack lunches.

“This event was possible because of the generosity of Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union, who paid for the Chalet rental and hayrides,” said Cheryl Senko, Director of Development for Koinonia. “The fact that they brought volunteers to also help manage the event was phenomenal! Their kindness helped make everyone feel extra valued and welcomed!”

“We are proud to support the outstanding work done by Koinonia and had a great time preparing and serving the lunch and meeting all of the guests,” said Mike Wisnor, Vice President of Marketing & Mission for Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union.  “We look forward to identifying additional ways that we can partner together in the future,” added Wisnor.

Walmart also provided a generous grant of $500 to be used towards the food for the event.

In addition to hayrides and food, guests also enjoyed DJ dancing, cornhole, and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful grounds at The Chalet.  The Koinonia Fall Picnic and Hayride provides an opportunity for people who have IDD to increase their socialization, develop friendships and visit with family members while enjoying a fun activity in the community.
