This past week, The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Celebrated on June 19, this day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas more than two years after it became effective.
We commend the bipartisanship and swift action of the Senate and the Biden-Harris Administration for taking this step in recognizing our country’s history and moving towards a more diverse and inclusive society.
We acknowledge that a key element of our organization’s success is the rich diverse backgrounds and experiences of our workforce. Koinonia strives to continuously promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. While racial injustices are still prevalent, it is important that we continue to address systemic barriers, listen to the experiences of those affected by these barriers, and work together to foster a more equitable community.
From all of us at Koinonia, Happy Juneteenth!
