A Teacher. An Advocate. A Friend. A Problem Solver. How a Job Coach changed William’s life

Meet William. William was referred to Koinonia Enterprises (KE) by a case worker at Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities because they knew KE had the right combination of experience, tenacity, and community relationships to help William land his first real job.

People described William as hardworking, professional, and a friendly young man – yet he had challenges approaching potential employers, completing an application, and going through the interview process. Luckily for William, Koinonia was ready.

William’s job coach Steve jumped into action. He identified what kind of work experiences interested William, and what he felt he was good at. He helped William build up his confidence. Then they worked together practicing the job skills and the people skills necessary to prepare for successful employment. They explored possible work alternatives that were close to William’s home, so he could capitalize on natural supports that were already part of his life. In the end, William landed his first job as a silverware roller at Maggiano’s Little Italy in January of this year – but that’s only the beginning of William’s story.

Six short months after he was hired, William was thrilled to be named TEAMMATE OF THE MONTH which not only meant he was honored with a generous bonus and a wonderful plaque, but his name will be displayed on the Maggiano’s Little Italy Wall of Fame FOREVER! We’re so proud of William and Steve for their hard work.
